What does it mean to be British?
A series of lunch time dialogues focusing 'What does it mean to be British?' will be launched later this month.
Hosted by Anjum Anwar, who is also the cathedral's dialogue development officer, and by Canon Chris Chivers, the cathedral's canon chancellor, for four consecutive weeks (13, 20, 27 November and 4 December) Britons of different faiths and ethnic backgrounds - many of them from younger generations - will explore an issue which has emerged as a defining one in our society.
A cup of tea, fish and chips, standing in a queue, chicken tikka masala, talking about the weather, cucumber sandwiches these are just a few of the superficial markers that are often taken as indications of British identity. But what does it really mean to be British?
These dialogues will endeavour to interrogate a question that's being asked across the whole of society.
