Bollywood Night

A Bollywood night is being held at Bolton Town Hall on Friday 2 November at 7pm.

The event for women only will feature a fashion show, a three course meal provided by Nawaab, Live entertainment and a Bollywood dance by Monica's Dancing diva's.

Organisers Ethical Entertainment - Tayyebah Jiva, Monica Ballani and Fatima Patel - met with staff from Fortalice the Women's refuge which will benefit from the money raised.

Arlene Cochrane, Manager of Fortalice said, "We are delighted with the proposal from Ethical Entertainment to assist our charity with the 'Bollywood' evening, as this event will support Fortalice in a number of ways."

Fatima said, "We really need more sponsors. Our three main sponsors - Fitness First, The Laser and Cosmetic Centre and The Smile Clinic, have been very generous and we would like to thank them for that; however, we would like more support from other businesses, no matter how small their contribution."

Tayyebah added, "One hundred per cent of any donation will go to Fortalice and we will make our greatest effort to ensure that businesses will be acknowledged on the night and in future articles about the event.

"Our target amount is £3,000 because we have been told that this is enough to furnish one of the flats at the new refuge - it's something for us to work towards".

Monica said "The planning for the night is going really well, we have lots of entertainment, including Bollywood Dancers, Belly Dancers, singing, poetry, fashion shows, auctions, best-dressed competition, Dohl Players and a drama piece.

"The menu for the three-course meal looks really good too!"

Fortalice was established in 1977 by a group of women who were extremely concerned about the growing number of calls for help to Samaritans from women who were experiencing domestic violence.

The service was set up and run entirely by volunteers and has over the years grown and expanded to become the main provider of services in Bolton for women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

Tayyebah and Fatima have been putting posters up around Bolton for the last few days and they have been pleased at the public response: "People have been really positive about the event, even men, who we thought may be resistant to a female-only event.

"Also, non-Asian women seem be more enthusiastic about the even than Asian women - it will be nice to have a diverse mix of people at the event".

Tickets are priced at £20 (children under 5 go free) and can be purchased from the ladies Fitness First (01204 535344), The Laser and Cosmetic Centre, (01204 370265) or The Smile Clinic, (01204 398393).

Or e-mail ethical_entertainment@yahoo.co.uk or by calling 07988 640360.

The event will be a strictly ladies-only, no photography (except the performers who have given permission) event.
