He made his acting debut in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham at the age of 14 and went on to write and produce a number of British films.

Now, Amar Adatia will be seen opposite Calum Best in the action packed ‘Dangerous Game.’

Amar, a screenwriter, producer and director who hails from Essex, is bringing his new film, which he also produced, to this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

‘Dangerous Game’ sees Amar acting alongside Calum Best who plays the role of Chris Rose, a professional footballer who finally gets the opportunity to play for his favourite team, taking his career from the Championship to the Premier League.

However things take a turn when Chris gets involved with a Russian organised crime syndicate who have their sights set on using young players to fix matches, and soon he finds his career and life in danger.

With the help of childhood mate, Adam Chopra (Amar Adatia), Chris is forced uses his knowledge of the game to pit the Russians against the Algerian underworld.

Amar’s previous films include ‘Gangsters, Gamblers, Geezers’ and ‘Krish and Lee’ which he wrote and produced.

Amar says a lack of roles for British Asians prompted him to take matters into his own hands.

“I have been acting for 16 years, but I was never the lead role. It is difficult for British Asian to get those key parts.

“Another huge problem is that it is still frowned upon by many Asian families to have a career in the media.

"There are still parts of the community that want their children to have those traditionally secure jobs.

“I was very fortunate that my parents supported my decision to act.

“In fact, it was my mum that encouraged me to audition for what was my acting debut in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham when I was only 14!

“Since then I have had many decent roles, but I wanted to make something more substantial happen.

“So I made a small film in 2011 and brought it to Cannes.
“I thought, if I can do that on a small budget, then I can definitely do more.”

In a bid to support young people with an interest to follow a career in the film industry or performing arts, Amar has teamed up with the MMBF Trust and has launched the eponymous Amar Adatia award which will see the winner acting in his next feature film.

“I have gone into many colleges and spoken to media students about working in this career. I want to encourage them to pursue this avenue.

“My parents brought me up to be humble and positive. They both abide by a hard working ethic- they have been running their own business for the last 40 years.

“They taught me to work hard and persevere. Their support has helped me to excel in my career.

“I hope that I too can inspire young people in the same way.”

Dangerous Game is due to be released into UK cinemas in June 2017.
