Her parents, Hussain and Halima are launching a campaign to raise funds for her specialist care.
OMS only affects around 30 people in the UK and mans Safaa, cannot stand, walk or talk and has to be fed through a tube in her stomach. Hussain said, “She is our only child and we hope people reading this will help sponsor us in our fundraising efforts.”
So far the couple have £4000 after only two weeks of fundraising. Hussain, from Preston, will be running be running from Blackburn and doing a sponsored swim. Halima will be taking part in the Rainbow Ramble - an 11-mile charity walk.
Hussain, said: “When she got ill at the age of 11 months we thought it was just teething problems.
“She was not sleeping, crying and she was not very well.” Both Hussain and Halima have been caring for her round the clock.
Safaa (pictured) was taken to into specialist care at Rainbow House but it costs £3000 a year to look after her.
“The staff at the hospital and Rainbow House have been magnificent. But now we need to make sure she can be looked after and we have to pay for this.”
After researching into the illness they have been in contact with families in the US who also had children who had developed the disorder.
“It’s good to talk to people going through a similiar situation,” he said, “and they mention there is a doctor in the States who is a specialist, but we have no plans to take Safaa to see him. Not at the moment.”
Hussain’s run is taking place in March.
