Two university students have broken the world record for the longest hug.

Mohammed Azeem and Faisal Mohyud-Din managed to remain together for 24 hours and 17 minutes. The went 16 minutes further than the previous record.

By doing so they raised funds for Christie cancer unit in Oldham.

Alicia Custis, head of communications at The Christie said, "Massive congratulations to Faisal and Azeem for the world record - they've done fantastically well and fought against sleep deprivation and muscle fatigue.

"I know it was incredibly hard work and I'm hugely grateful to them for doing this for the Christie. This is a hug for all our cancer patients."

The Salford University students finished their attempt at Oldham Athletic's Boundary Park on Tuesday night.
