A new singles event is hoping to be a hit with Muslim professionals in the area.

‘Initial Contact’ is the brainchild of Sameena Hussain who wanted to give Muslim professionals a more relaxed way to meet like-minded people.

“I wanted to launch a service for single Muslim professionals who are caught between two cultures and traditions and don't want to lose either.”

She says she was inspired to hold the event after attending a single Muslims event herself. “It was all very formal and impersonal; the emphasis seemed to be on details such as age, profession and location rather than what the person was like. It didn’t really give you the opportunity to speak to people on a one to one basis and find out about their likes, dislikes, hobbies or interests.

I sense many people just want to attend an event to get a snapshot of what an individual is like and whether they can relate to them.

“This is especially so for Muslim females. It can be quite daunting for some people and I can share my own experience about how difficult it is to meet the right kind of person.

“Initial contact provides the opportunity to socialise and mingle with single Muslim professionals in a safe, warm and relaxed atmosphere. There is the potential to meet like-minded people and converse face to face on a one to one basis.

“The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying good company and good food with the possibility of meeting someone you 'click' with, not to look for a husband or wife.”

Sameena is hoping her more exclusive service will be attractive to many single Muslim professionals across the region looking to make that initial contact with other single Muslim professionals.

“We tend to keep the numbers manageable and look to have quality rather than quantity.

“From the moment guests arrive the initial contact team will ensure that they feel at ease and relaxed.

“This care and support continues after the event. For instance, if individuals did not exchange contact details on the night but would like to then we can check with the other party and pass on contact details.”

The Single Muslim Professional event will take place at the Karims Restaurant, Middleton, Manchester on Saturday 12 December at 7pm.
