Most families would settle for starring in their own Channel 4 TV show.

But the Grewals, who arrived on television screens this month in documentary The Family, are not ones to sit still.

The reality TV stars are returning to Watermans in Brentford, where family members have appeared in several stage productions since 2007, to feature in new play, Tejinder the Terminator, in Punjabi.

The High Street theatre holds a special place in the heart of playwright and The Family’s “daughter”, Gurdip Kaur Chaudhary – or Kaki.

The 32-year-old said: “I used to come here when I was doing media studies at Isleworth College, and my dad’s friend Tejinder did a show here.

“When my husband Jeet [a Bollywood actor known as Jeetpal] and I set up our theatre company, Matribhoomi, this was the first place we performed.”

Her father, 54-year-old Arvinderjeet Singh Grewal, was cast in their first three plays, but this time Jeet and two-year-old Bhavika Chaudhary – also known as Wah Wahs – take centre stage.

Jeet said: “Our latest play, Tejinder the Terminator, is a comedy about a lazy and inept policeman sent on a mission to London. The show speaks about the perils of binge drinking and domestic violence, through comedy.”

The second episode of The Family, which is billed as the first documentary of its kind to fully depict British Asian life, aired last week, and Arvinderjeet said the reaction from family and friends has been positive so far.

He said: “I found 99 per cent of the people were so pleased at the first episode.

“They are glad somebody came forward to open doors for the community, by portraying the reality like it is.

“I’ve been swearing at mum [Sarbjit] – that’s what families are like. Youngsters tell me ‘that’s how our parents are’.”

Tejinder the Terminator is currently playing Watermans at 7.45pm every evening, with Sunday being the last performance.

However, Gurdip and Jeet plan to return in February.
