Dance company to perform at awards

A harrow-based dance company has been invited to perform at a national award ceremony for Asian woman.

Members of the Shri Academy of Dance will open the Asian Woman Magazine Awards for Excellence at Whitehall Palace, in Westiminster, with a bollywood style dance performance.

Bhavini Sheth, 10, is a member of the academy and recently performed at the London Diwali celebrations in Trafalgar Square.

She said: "I am doing a Bollywood dance. I have only been practicing it a few weeks but I am really excited - I think it's going to go really well."

Kishan Sheth, 12, who is also performing, said: "I like dancing because it is different - it is fun. I feel very excited because it is my first time doing anything like this."

Kishan and Bhavini are brother and sister and Rajeshri Sheth, their mother, is founder and director of the academy.

She said: "It is truly a privilege to be part of something so big and I am proud to be able to offer such wonderful performing opportunities to our members."

The ceremony is being hosted by BBC Asian Network presenter Adil Ray and will take place at 6.30pm on Saturday, November 24.

Shri Academy of Dance are the British and International Boogie Woogie Dance Champions for 2006-7.
