Free Urdu and Arabic classes for teachers


Enrolment is open for COLT’s free training course for teachers of Arabic or Urdu, has begun in Manchester.

The course aims to support teachers of community languages through continual professional development, including two full workshop days, school visits and observation visits.

There are separate strands for teachers of Arabic or Urdu, with the Urdu trainers speaking Gujarati and Hindi as well as Urdu, while a third strand is available for teachers of Mandarin Chinese.

The workshop parts of the Urdu course takes place on two full Saturdays in October and December, while the Arabic course workshops take place on two Thursdays in November and December.

A one-day ‘top-up’ workshop will take place in May (for Arabic teachers) and June (for Urdu teachers).

The course doesn’t constitute a PGCE, but participants can register for an MMU award or qualification where completion of the COLT course provides exemption from certain modules under the ‘accreditation of prior learning’ scheme.

COLT (Community and Lesser Taught Languages) is a consortium which consists of lead institution MMU along with the universities of Manchester, Bolton and Salford and UCLAN.
