CHIGWELL: Another year of success for Sikh school students

Students from the Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College are celebrating today (Thursday August 27) after another good round of GCSE results.

Nervous students, many with parents in tow, rushed to the college in Roding Lane this morning to pick up their results.

Outside the college there were tears of relief and smiles all round as the students discovered they had continued the college's history of strong results.

Faraz Ahmed, 17, got two A*'s including Maths, one A, one grade B and passed his ICT exam.

He said: "I'm very pleased, I'm going on to do accountancy at Barking College so the A* in maths is really good news.

"I think my parents will be very pleased with this, the teachers at the college were very helpful."

Krishna Trivedi, 16, was relieved after discovering he had three A*'s, two A's, two B's and two C's.

he said: "I'm going off to sixth form at Bancroft's school but then I want to go on to do medicine, I worked really hard so this is a good result.

Krishna's proud dad, Kailash added: "He did all the hard work, we just tried to guide him, but yes, we are very proud of him today."

Overall, 90 percent of the students got five or more A*- C grades, and some of the year 10 pupils had the chance to sit theirs earlier.

Headteacher Amarjit Toor said: "We have covered more subjects this year than ever before especially languages.

"Our year 10 pupils sat GCSE maths and science exams a year early, 30 percent achieved A* or A in maths.

"Others will have the chance to improve these results next year, and we look forward to a bright year ahead."
