Volunteer is one of a kind

If there was a prize for the world’s best volunteer then Faisal Valli might well have it sewn-up.

The 21 year-old has racked-up over 200 hours of volunteering since he joined the Fishwick Youth Development team based at the FIshwick YMCA, Preston.

He puts in an amazing 30 hours a week of his time helping youngsters in the Fishwick and Callon areas setting-up youth clubs and coaching youngsters.

It is all part of the ‘Be positive -think Positive Project’ the centre runs.

Volunteer Co-ordinator Tanvir Khalil said, “When Faisal came to the centre he was really lacking in confidence and self-esteem.

“It was difficult for him to even write and organise any tasks. But he has battled through any learning difficulties he has and excelled at everything he does.”

Faisal has already completed an IT course, Food hygiene course, health and Safety courses and a First Aid course.

“He is very determined and committed and wants to succeed and he is one of the centre’s great success stories.

“We have a lot of volunteers with a range of skills but Faisal has progressed really well. It has been an amazing to see how he has changed since he first stepped foot into the place.”

Faisal said, “The Fishwick Youth Development team have been a great help. When I started here it was a bit difficult getting used to all the tasks.

“I have since completed a variety of projects and gained valuable experience in organising many activities.”
