Dear Massi, I have got married into a big town and have had to make a lot of changes and adjustments.
I have moved away from my family but I really cannot live without them. Although my husband is nice and supportive but still I don’t know why I can’t stop thinking about my family....does this happen or is it just me?.
MASSI SAYS, This is not unusual at all. All changes take time to adjust to and you have made a number of major life changes. The biggest is getting married then you have moved out of your family home and left your home town to move to a different part of the country. All these things constitute major changes and will have a massive impact on how you are feeling.
It will take you time to adjust, don’t expect for everything to simply fall into place and for you to get used to the changes straight away. It’s only natural to need a period of adjustment and this can vary from person to person. Try to focus on the positives; one such positive is that your husband is nice and supportive. Imagine if you had to get used to all these changes and he wasn’t nice or supportive.
Don’t worry you are not alone in feeling bereft without your family. Moving away from home for the first time is a very big thing and no doubt your family will also be feeling your move very keenly. We live in the age of modern technology where contact with our loved ones is only the press of a button away. Speak with them regularly, email them, here’s an idea write them letters or send cards. Your family will be feeling really anxious about you entering into a new relationship and if they feel that you are unhappy then this will only feed their anxiety.
It will take some time and adjustment but try not to worry and enjoy your new married life; you have so much to look forward to!
