She wants to divorce me on Eid!

Dear Massi I was married for five years to a girl from India and but we are now divorced.

We have a young child together. The reason we got divorced is that I met a Pakistani girl three years ago and we got married.

I lied to her told her I wasn’t married but before we got married When I eventually told her she was upset but we did get married.

After three years with her now we are having problems as I have got her in to debt. We got a house together an I didn’t pay the mortgage money on time. However, I have been paying it on time on time for tha past six months. In the meantime my actions have led to her losing her car.

Now, although we have fun, we argue about the past about how I lied to her and she always brings it up. She now wants to divorce me after Ramadan is over.

I know I have hurt her a lot and want to make things better for us. What can I do?

Massi Says, Sounds like you’re in a bit of a pickle.

Lets start by saying that at least you told her you had been married before you married her so she knew this and should not be throwing this back in your face all the time but perhaps you need to see this as a sign of her deeper unhappiness with the relationship and what has been happening.

If I were you I would try to have a long discussion with her and speak about all the issues that are cropping up in your marriage.

You mention that things had been better recently and you need to concentrate on that and bring this up when you have this discussion with your wife and say that although things have been bad they can also be good, cite the last six months as an example.

I am just wondering though that if things have been better for the last six months then what has happened recently to make her dredge up the past, you need to get to the bottom of this.

Explain to her that you have been making an effort to make you marriage work and that this is really important to you and that yes you have made mistakes in the past but you want things to work. I wish you luck.
