Dear Massi, Me and my sons have been fasting and Ramadan is going well. My wife though is not fasting.

She says the fasting makes her put on weight.

She is trying to lose weight for her brother's wedding which is after Ramadan.

She is on a diet of 800 calories a day.

It annoys me that she would rather go on a diet than fast.

I told her if she ate the same healthy food for iftari, she would lose weight.

She says the fasting also makes her too tired to go to the gym.

It is really upsetting me that my wife isn't fasting, but at the same time she is lying to everyone and pretending she is fasting.

Is there anything you suggest I can say to her?

Massi says, Whilst you have embraced the month of Ramadan, you cannot force your wife to fast.

You have advised her of what you think is best. Ultimately, the decision to fast lies with her.

Understand that your wife  is responsible for her own actions.

Although your wife's stance has perturbed you, turn your focus on your own actions and how you wish to avail of the month of Ramadan and how it can benefit you and your family by creating a positive environment.
