This month is going to be testing for some of us and I wish all of you a peaceful Ramadhan.
It will be refreshing to see some of you returning to the mosques you ignored and the scarves coming on. Maybe it would be a good idea if we didn’t wait for one month of the year to become ‘all-pious’.
I don’t like to doubt anyone’s intentions but I am kind of sick and tired of seeing the same folk doing a quick change when Eid comes round. All of a sudden we forget what we have learnt over the past month.
And during this blessed month I think we have a duty to continually explain to our neighbours what Ramadhan is. Invite a non-Muslim to one Iftaar and see what a difference it makes.
I applaud those mosques that do this but I’m afraid the majority of you don’t!. And don’t use the excuse when is the last time you got invited to a church. We don’t have to compare and contrast everything in life!
It is also time we stopped the rumours. This time of year we have this huge debate about whether minor foods like jelly babies are haram or how bad it is that one group opened their roza (fast) thirty seconds before everyone else.
Yes, educate yourself but don’t all of a sudden become the world’s expert on halal and haram food!
I think some people have got more time on their hands and will spend hours discussing this instead of looking at the bigger picture.
Try to remember those less fortunate than yourself at this time rather than point out our differences. Isn’t it better to celebrate what we have in common than what sets us apart?
For this reason I won’t be saying much about why we began Ramadhan on two different days again.
It made me laugh...
n I wasn’t surprised that Rochdale Exchange shopping centre has decided to pull the plug on the Squat Style-toilets.
It’s great being culturally sensitive but on this occasion I think was going too far.
What surprised me though was the amount of grief the shopping centre got for wanting to install some toilets. It was ONLY toilets people...it does not mean the Muslims are taking over the town!!
