How can a simple sweet centre end-up in a food column like this? Well, the secret is all in the kebab roll and masala fish.
Mansha Sweet Centre is situated right in the heart of Nelson close to the town centre. It certainly doesn’t look that impressive from the outside but the management do at least try to jazz it up with some well-placed lights.
But appearances can be deceptive.
I later learned they come from far and wide to taste the kebab roll and the masala fish here and it is not hard to see why.
I came across the place by accident after having seen few takeouts of any exception in the area. Having put in a shift at a local football pitch I wandered into the place wanting to be surprised. And pleasantly surprised I was.
The £2 kebab roll was in a class of it’s own as it came in a freshly clay oven cooked naan and lashings of sauce.
Meanwhile the masala fish had the makings of a classic. The fish might set you back £4 but it tasted like it came from the Mangla Dam in Mir Pur! And that is compliment I rarely hand out.
On the downside the service was a little slow. This is first and foremost a sweet centre and the priority was to serve those who came in for their Mithai fix.
It would also help if you changed your overalls once in a while. First impressions last my dear friends.
The place didn’t have much seating and you have to make do with one of those stools and eat facing the window. Which kind of took me back to the good old days.
If they had more seats here I am sure this would be a major contender for eatery of the year.
Barring all of that I would return here in a flash for that kebab roll and that fantastic masala fish.
