I am 42-years-old and I am still single. Not that I haven't had the opportunity.

I do want to get married and have children and I am more than aware that I am getting too old.

But I am also a realist.

I have three brothers and my mother has driven each of their wives away.

She is an unhappy woman who cannot stand to see her daughter-in-laws happy.

I have seen four divorces in my family-one brother has been divorced twice.

She blames the women for being cruel to her but I know that is not the case.

My brothers don't have it in them to stand up to my mum.

I have spoken to my mother about her need to interfere and be controlling and she always promises she will change.

It's harsh reality but I believe it would be unfair to bring another woman into such a toxic environment.
