The Scene opened in the exclusive area of Spinningfields early last year and looked to offer ‘traditional Indian street food’.

In what is a competitive market regionally for Indian restaurants it was not going to be easy trying something a little different.

Despite being Asian you may not know exactly what traditional street food might mean. Yes, we might all think we are experts in our own way when it comes to Indian food but it is actually great to be surprised every so often.

Indian Restaurant menus have evolved and I sense so have we as the customer.

On our visit here we went a little bit of everything. It was the only way to really enjoy the varied dishes on offer.

The dishes offered at Scene Indian Street Kitchen are according to the restaurant inspired 'by the street food vendors of India, Pakistan and Southern Asia and ‘distinctive and full of flavour’.

And it really important that you do actually take the opportunity to taste a range of dishes on offer here.

The ‘Thali’ is a must for any visit and is served in lamb, chicken or vegetarian options. Complete with their signature sauces and dips the ‘Thali’ is available on both the lunchtime and evening menus.

Among others the chicken makhani dish and Punjabi daal were stand outs for us. Rarely do I commend a daal but there has been an effort to ensure each dish is presented to the highest standards.

What I also found appealing was the variety of cocktails on offer and the presentation of the meal itself.

There has been a real effort to compliment the meal with the theme of the restaurant itself. The finer details are

Of course you might well find the prices a tad expensive but I would say the restaurants does make that up with decent service and food that dares to be different. And for the area it is about average.

The interior itself has a very unique look about it and the ‘movie wall’ is certainly eye-catching. Over the years we have become accustomed to visiting restaurants looking to make their venues look like wedding stages.

Here, it was all about things being a little more refined. And that is a lot more refreshing to see a design that is modern yet at the same time reflects the culture of South East Asia.

To the back the restaurant overlooks the River Irwell and to the front there is a Shisha area seating approximately 40 people.

Moreover, there is certainly a distinctive Scene atmosphere when one visits the restaurant making this a great all round addition to the Spinningfields area.
