Regardless of hair type, strands swell and expand in humidity when the air is full of moisture.

Unfortunately, humid conditions will make your hair appear fluffy and, if it’s prone to curling, will cause fizziness. ARGH. Preventing excess moisture from seeping into the hair shaft in humid weather is key and here’s how to do just that.

1. If you have fine hair: “This tends to get weighed down by the moisture in the air and looks flat and limp. As with other hair types, you need to block out humidity if you can.
Use a light leave-in conditioner on your hair in humid weather and seal the ends of the hair after blow-drying with a serum.

2. If you have curly and thick hair
: “Sealing the outside of your hair – the cuticle – is the only way to minimise the candyfloss look while you are in humid conditions. Using an anti-frizz serum will help bring unruly curls to heel. It coats the hair shaft with silicone, not only sealing the cuticle but also weighing the hair down a little.”
