You might not want to admit it but we have become a generation who wants the best of both worlds.

The reality is men and women living in this country are simply trying to compliment religious ideologies with western culture.

This has become ever more prevalent as time has gone on and in particular with second and third generation Muslims.

What seems to be apparent is that by accepting a few religious practices, one falls under the assumption that following western values is acceptable.

I am not saying here for a second that as Muslims living the United Kingdom, should not blend into society, as that is key to living here peacefully and comfortably. Yet with everything in life there needs to be a balance.

What I am making a point about is the modern day hijabi and the modern day male Muslim.

Take these scenarios, and to be fair to both sexes I shall give an example of both.

With women we have the Muslim Barbie.

It is bizarre how one can even fathom the thought of this yet it is widespread. How many have people noticed women dressing in a hijab, with skinny jeans and a tight top.

On top of that the individual would be caked in enough makeup to make Lady Gaga look like Mother Teresa. Remember Aliyah in Citizen Khan!

I am sorry but one doesn’t dress in that way except to want the sort of attention a hijab is trying to counter. Does one really believe they are acting in a righteous manner?

The man, we have the Muslim playboy.

Men in our culture have a habit of marrying within their families for generations. It is a village / cultural attitude.

Now, marriage is a special contract that must respected in every facet. We all understand that.

Now the playboy Muslim, will live very happily with his wife and beautiful children.

Give this perfect image off to the whole community. Yet behind closed doors he will have weekends away, binge drink, take drugs and shag everything that moves.

Anyone remember Kris Marshall’s character in Love Actually? Colin Frissel, bag full of condoms, jets off to America to shag! Now imagine a brown version of that with a northern / Pakistani accent, with a wife and four kids at home.

Now, I have no idea what one wants to accomplish by acting in this manner. Neither are you English and neither are you adhering to Pakistani or Muslim traditions.

It is as if you want the best of both worlds but that simply does not work in this way.

The way it works is having a normal Muslim life and living in this world by being decent and sincere.

Clearly people who act in the aforementioned scenarios have no real religious inclinations.

The actions of individuals such as this are generally forced into a certain way of life.

As a consequence they are rebelling against it by saying, well as long the community think I am being good, what they don't know wont hurt them.

It is this clear hypocrisy that has encompassed our society.

Maybe the message is here for people to change as a society and get away from traditions that are shackling the new generation to a past that they clearly abhore.
