Good things come in small sizes. The Mash’s Wing Ranch was born in Bolton and has found its way to Blackburn and Preston.

Since then it has been serving up a range of peri peri-style dishes and sizzlers.

I found myself in the Blackburn branch recently which opened some time ago on the corner of Richmond Terrace.

The restaurant has a distinct character about it, possibly to do with its location more than anything else. Being smack bang in the centre of town has its benefits and this one is a great little place to eat during the summer months as the front windows open up onto the main street.

Mash’s food and style is a little different though from many restaurants one visits. Here, there is a little bit of everything and what appeals to customers is the simplicity of it.

There is a very detailed menu for all tastes but Mash’s gets by on some firm favourites.

Whilst a popular choice is the grilled chicken and sizzlers, I tend to pick either a burger or a hot dog from the varied menu.

The idea is to have something that is a little different and not something you would end up ordering at almost any other takeaway or restaurant.

The Mexican Burger comes with chips and salad and is probably the stand out dish in this section. There is a good choice of special sauces to choose from. It would help though if there were more bottles!

The fact that this place is a little smaller than your average ‘Asian’ restaurant does give it that more homely feel. During our visit it was also great to see a mixed crowd of people for a change and not a restaurant full of just Asian people.

It also has that ‘Nando’s’ feel to it in terms of the service. It is quick and efficient and the food arrives pretty fast. Brilliant when you have a small family to feed.

A pleasant dining experience on the whole and not at all that costly to be honest. When you are forking out nearly twice as much at some other restaurants for what is pretty average food it makes sense to actually ignore the crowds and head to an establishment like this.
