The Islamic State (IS) is made-up of a bunch of murderers masquerading as Muslims. But is going to war with them really going to achieve anything? By Mustafa Nabeel.

Today, the government will announce that Britain is going to take a more active part in dismantling IS. Now, in the past few months many Muslims have made it clear that they have no affiliation with this group.

Many Muslims in the Middle East have spoken of their disgust at the actions of this group. But are we really going to war because these guys are bunch of murderers or are we simply taking back the oil fields this group has captured?

The case for war has reached fever pitch.

Let there be no illusions governments do not go to war because they want to free people and are concerned about their welfare. They have not done so for hundreds of years and they are not about to start now.

Governments go to war to spend more money with defence companies and to help gain the strategic edge in areas where there are resources.

It is very reason we leave some dictatorships alone and aim to overthrow others.

We are well aware that across the planet there are groups who will murder and pillage village after village. I am all for fighting this particular group but let us completely clear here – this is a war for land and resources.

If this group had not captured valuable land rich in resources in the Middle East would we really be preparing to stage an assault on them? Anyone who says this would has forgotten why we went into that region in the first place.

This should be termed as the oil war 3.

Already warplanes from the US-led coalition bombed oil installations in Deir el-Zour province a day after America and its Arab allies pummelled a dozen makeshift oil producing facilities in the same area near Syria's border with Iraq.

The raids are believed to cripple one of the group’s primary sources of cash - black market oil sales.

There are those among us who will laugh these suggestions and anyone who says otherwise will quickly be termed as a ‘sympathiser’.

The truth though is that governments will find a way of making a case for war. We did it before and we will do it again.

The IS is responsible for some heinous crimes. But let us be clear about our reasons for going to war from the onset and let us not dress it up in some grand idea that we actually care about human rights.
