Apparently religious authorities have too much spare time on their hands.

As if condemning ISIS, radicalisation and fundamentalism simply wasn’t taxing enough.

Now Egyptian authorities have decided to exert their esteemed status and have determined that taking selfies are haram.

For women.

Yes, we women should protect ourselves from the salacious eye of the online pervert.

Whilst selfies are indeed the epitome of narcissism and the demise of modern day decorum, nonetheless issuing a fatwa against them is just plain ludicrous.

How do religious authorities plan on policing that one?

What about the new breed of ISIS female militants who post crass selfies online posing with guns? Surely that’s the one that should be condemned.

And of course, not forgetting the savage ISIS militants who post debased selfies of beheadings. All in the name of Allah and this warped alleged caliphate.

But yes, women posing harmless selfies with their new handbags or eating out with their friends is the most heinous crime of all.

Add an LOL, and you’re screwed.

It’s as farcical as those who preach that ‘the biggest sin a man can commit is not wearing his trousers above his ankles or growing his beard long enough.’ And what about another fatwa issued in Egypt earlier this year which stated that rape is like robbery and a husband should not risk his life protecting his wife’s honour from another man.

Well that’s another column unto itself.

If you are going to take the time out to issue fatwas, why not focus on those yo yo gansta types who post inane videos while smoking weed wearing their gold rings and state ‘Mashallah I’m driving a f***ing sick car innit, coz I’m blessed alhamdulilah.’ This latest fatwa is less common sense and more a gleaming example of misogynistic law that reigns supreme.

Whilst female selfies may be considered ‘frivolous’ and ‘evil’ by Egypt’s highest Islamic authority, this condescending and foul attitude of zealous ‘academics’ speaks grave volumes.
