Yesterday the Sun newspaper had this rather sensational and totally bogus headline on its front cover “Halal Secret Of Pizza Express”. Hmm… could have not been a very well-kept secret, as it has been on Pizza Expresses website for a couple of years now.

But then, why let the truth get in the way of a salacious headline.

Which makes me wonder, what was the point of that article? Unless of course it was an attempt to stir up more anti-Muslim feeling (which it did judging by some of the bile that was written in twitter in response) yet another attempt to show that Muslims are taking over the country.

Coincidentally it comes after the recent Daily mail (another Muslim friendly newspaper) article which informed readers that hundreds of Subway branches went halal. Ham and bacon were off the menu as turkey took its place.

Subway has over 1,700 stores across the UK and Ireland.

A halal option is only available in less than 12 per cent of places. But this was not mentioned in the article, thus the scale of the problem seems larger, more scandalous. Time to get the pitch-forks out folks!

Pizza Express on its website states “All our restaurants serve pork, beef and chicken. All our chicken is Halal approved but it is important to note that all birds are stunned before being slaughtered.

"Our chicken supplier is accredited by the British Retail Consortium. This means it meets the global standard for food safety and legality”.

In fact the majority of halal-meat sold in the UK is pre-stunned. So what was that about halal meat and animal rights?

Now I wonder those same people who call halal meat slaughter barbaric, are aware that their local curry house probably serves halal meat? Does it stop them I wonder?

Muslim’s are not the only ones that involve animals having their throats slit and the blood drained.

Can you imagine a headline telling us that Kosher meat is being served in high street restaurant? It is open season on Muslims – and we cannot afford to be silent on this, they know they could never get away with doing this to any other minority, so to something about it today.

Write your letters of complaint, contact your local MP. This is blatant Islamphobia and we should not tolerate it.

Seeing the social media responses to the Pizza Express article and the Subway article is depressing but sadly some of the comments on social media about them are not surprising or unexpected.

And the media has a responsibility not to inflame tensions within communities, they know exactly what they are doing and it has to stop.

But this will not happen by itself, Muslims need to be proactive vocalising our disgust, because let’s face it Muslims get accused of protesting too much anyway so we have nothing to lose.
