Recently, I found myself doing my rounds and dropping off gifts and thank you cards in my home town.

Whilst there I thought I’d pop in and see my old friend Asad at Asims Chippy on New Bank Road, Blackburn.

During our quick chat I brought up the time when I was having a life coaching session with a client.

When he entered my home he noticed that I had a prayer room and the client said, “I did not realise you have a prayer room. Did you know if you phone the council and let them know you have a prayer room or a place of worship you do not have to pay council tax!”

He then went on to tell me that if you are a Muslim or have a prayer room at home you do not have to pay council tax.

Well, before I could finish the end of my sentence - Asad was laughing so much he nearly took two of his finger off whilst cutting the Donner meat!

Now, this is not first time I have heard this urban myth but it got me thinking. If some people choose to believe these things, how easy is it to form the wrong opinion.

It comes down to one of two things; education and community relations. There was I thinking about telephoning the council so I could save £94 on council tax!

We should be very mindful of what we hear and choose to believe and more importantly about the consequences of what we choose to hear and believe especially - Urban myths!

A happy new year to you all.
