Islamic Finance Conference


An Islamic finance conference is to take place in Leeds next month.

‘Opportunities and Challenges in the World of Islamic Finance’ is a two day conference which will be held on the 13 and 14 October at the Royal Armouries.

The first of its kind in the Northern region, the conference will provide a valuable introduction to Islamic Finance, the rationale for growth in Shariah compliant financial products and the relevance of Islamic Finance in today’s world.

Joanna Lavan, organiser of the conference, said, “I am extremely excited about this ground-breaking conference which will lead to a better understanding of Islamic Finance.

"A range of themes will be introduced throughout the conference from learning about the core principles of Islamic Finance to exploring the challenges of Islamic Finance across national, cultural, social, and economic boundaries.”

The Conference will include presentations from speakers across the globe from the commercial, academic, financial and political fields seeking to cover different sectors involved in Islamic Finance.

Speakers include, Professor Ros Haniffa who is currently Head of the Accounting and Finance group at Bradford University and Qari Asim, an associate at DLA Piper and the youngest Imam in the UK.

Other confirmed speakers include Zulfiqar Husain from Global Synergy Solutions and Arshad Chaudhry, chairman of the Asian Business Development Network (ABDN).

Conference partners include Leeds Financial Services, Marketing Leeds, Conference Leeds, Institute of Directors, PWC, Talal Abu Ghazaleh, the largest auditing firm in the Middle East and Worthington Brown Design.

The two day event is expected to attract both national and international visitors across target sectors including, financial institutions, legal firms and trade associations.
