Bradford marks Pakistani Independence anniversary

A leading Bradford restaurant helped mark 62 years of Pakistani independence.

Businesses and politicians from across Bradford gathered today at Zouk tea bar and grill, in Leeds Road, to celebrate Independence Day.

Zouk co-owner Tayub Amjad said the event was to celebrate how Pakistani communities had made the city their home.

He said Pakistan Consul General Tariq Sumroo spoke about how much Pakistan and Britain have in common.

Mr Amjad said: “There is more than a billion pounds worth of trade between the two countries and Tariq Sumroo spoke of how people are looking at extending that for the good of both countries.”

Mr Amjad said the event was also a way of getting communities together to learn about and celebrate Pakistan independence.
