Imran invited to Downing Street

I-Teddy inventor Imran Hakim was invited to a Downing Street reception and whilst he was there, challenged Gordon Brown on what’s being done to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Gordon Brown and business secretary Lord Mandelson played host to 150 of Britain’s most innovative entrepreneurs from a range of sectors at the special event.

Imran said, “I was keen to discuss how hard it is in the current climate for young people as their prospects are significantly reduced yet they hold the key to our future.”

”I see the Government’s role as being to help set up and support young people that show entrepreneurial flair, to ensure that they are provided with the right skill sets to go on and harness their talent in both education and the business world.”

Imran’s interests include expanding his business portfolio whilst encouraging entrepreneurship amongst young entrepreneurs.

His recent appointments include Director of Entrepreneurship at UMIP the University of Manchester’s technology transfer company, North West ambassador of the ‘Next Generation UK India Network’ as well as a recent appointment as Director on the board of Business Link Northwest. Speaking at the event, Gordon Brown thanked the entrepreneurs for “making the big decision to start a business, for taking the risk to do so, for making all the effort that has made your businesses a success.”

He added: “Our aim is to do everything we can to support your ideas, and your innovations, to support the enterprise and the entrepreneurial culture that exists in so many areas of our country.

“We want to support you in the efforts that you make, to make for a stronger economy. I believe that the countries that will succeed in the future, the countries that will do best in this new global economy are those who can unleash the talents, the creativity and enterprise of its citizens.”
